Dowling wins first game in title defense

At the girls state high school basketball tournament, defending class 4A champion West Des Moines Dowling got 16-points from Amy Howe to down Iowa City High 43-31. Defense was the key for Dowling and Coach Bob Hanson says he was concerned about City High’s balance.Dowling built a double-digit lead in the third quarter before City High rallied.Vanessa Johnson had 21-points as sixth ranked Davenport West edged second ranked Sioux City East 55-52.Free throws were a big key as Johnson finished eight of eight from the line.
