Boswell critical of budget process

March 7, 2001 By admin

Iowa’s only democrat in the U-S House is critical of the handling of the budget process. Congressman Leonard Boswell says he’s been encouraged by the bipartisan approach of President Bush, but discouraged by the actions of republican leaders in the House. He says House democrats haven’t even seen a budget proposal.Boswell says he would like to see some sort of across-the-board tax cut, a repeal of the marriage penalty, and the estate tax. Boswell says he would like to see the national debt paid down rather than a huge tax cut. He believes his constituents feel the same way.One of Boswell’s fellow Iowa Congressman, Jim Nussle, is chairman of the House Budget Committee.
