The class 4-A championship game is set at the Girl’s State Basketball Tournament. West Des Moines Dowling has built its reputation on defense but it was hot shooting that sent the Maroons back to the title game. Dowling shot 52-percent for game and added 14 of 17 from the foul line as the third-ranked Maroons downed number six Davenport West 60-54. Senior guard Amy Howe had a big game for Dowling, finishing with 16 points on seven and ten from the field. She also drew the defensive assignment against West All-Stater Tracey Paustian despite giving away six inches in the matchup.Dowling coach Bob Hanson says with just one starter back from last year’s championship team, a trip to the title game has added meaning.Davenport West coach Gary Honson says he was proud of his team.West caught a bad break early when a foul on center Erin Dillie was inadvertently given to standout forward Tracy Paustian who later picked up her fourth foul midway through the third quarter. Paustian led West with 25-points as the Falcons end the season 20-5.Dowling will take on top ranked and unbeaten Cedar Falls in the championship. The Tigers pulled away from fourth ranked Des Moines Lincoln 64-50 . So, it is Dowling and Cedar Falls in the final again. A year ago Dowling won the title with a 36-35 victory.
