State party leaders tell Iowans to "check off"

Republicans and Democrats have found something to agree upon: both want more money for their parties. The state’s two major parties have launched a campaign to urge Iowans to contribute to their party on their income tax forms. Iowans can use the “check-off” to donate a buck-50 to either party or both. Iowa Republican Party Chairman Chuck Larson says they hope to get more Iowans involved in the political process. Democrat party chair Sheila McGuire Riggs says Iowans understand the power of the political process. She says the check off allows Iowans to get involved even more.As a result of last year’s check-off, nearly 70-thousand of your state tax dollars were sent to Iowa Democrats and 58-thousand was sent to Iowa Republicans.McGuire says the check-off’s a valuable tool for the parties.The political party check-off was established in 1983.
