UNI football coach resigns

March 8, 2001 By admin

The University of Northern Iowa is losing its second head coach in the last two days. Panther head football coach Mike Dunbar has resigned to take a job as quarterbacks coach for Northwestern. Dunbar had been the coach for four seasons. Athletic Director Rick Hartzell announced Tuesday that men’s basketball coach Sam Weaver had resigned after a 7-24 season. Assistant Athletic Director Kevin Buisman says the two resignations are not related.Buisman says it will be tough having to replace both coaches at the same time. Dunbar never had a losing season at UNI, but he failed to win a conference championship or get the Panthers into the Division 1-AA playoffs in any of his four years.
