Men and women who one day may treat your dog, cat, horse or gerbil are meeting in Ames. Iowa State University’s hosting the annual symposium for students from the nation’s 27 veterinary colleges. I-S-U vet student Todd Williams is the chair of the Symposium. He I-S-U students organized the symposium and raised the 225-thousand dollars to fund its budget. Williams says the symposium gives students a chance to see some things they don’t see in the regular curriculum. They’re showcasing some non-tradition treatments for animals, such as acupuncture. Other topics include elephant anesthesia and understanding the body language of cats and dogs. Teams from each school will square off in an academic competition tomorrow. The symposium runs through Saturday.
