The Class 2A semifinal round is underway at the girls state basketball tournament. Rock Valley used the long ball to advance to Saturday’s championship game. The fifth ranked Rockets drained eight three pointers, seven in the decisive first half in a 63-41 victory over 14th ranked Ballard. Sophomore Erica Schlotfeldt had a big day for the Rockets with 29-points, including three from beyond the arc in the first half. Rock Valley takes a 25-1 record into the 2A title game. Rock Valley coach Preston Kooima says a quick start was a goal for the Rockets. Schlotfeldt says with the Ballard defense concentrating on leading scorer Deb Remmerde other parts of the offense opened up. Ballard coach Merle Olberding says it was a disappointing end to a great season. Olberding says Rock Valley’s early shooting set the tone. Nicole Denmon led Ballard with 17-points as the Bombers end their season at 23-2.
