Drake women head to land of Andy and Oppie for NCAA’s

March 13, 2001 By admin

The Drake women’s basketball team leaves for Raleigh, North Carolina, today for their first round NCAA Tournament game Friday against Villanova. Drake is a twelve seed and just made it in. That doesn’t matter to Coach Lisa Stone, who’s excited about her team’s chances. Stone says the NCAA tournament should give the team something new to look forward to after a grueling regular season and conference tournament. She says the initial scouting report on Villanova shows they like to shoot the three. Drake plays Villanova, the fifth seed, at four p-m Friday. The NCAA has also released the times for the other women’s games. Iowa State University plays Howard at 8:30 Friday in Ames. Iowa will play at eight p-m Saturday against Oregon in Salt Lake City, Utah. The UNI women play DePaul Friday night at seven p-m in the first round of the women’s N-I-T.
