Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says it would become easier and cheaper to go to college under a bill that today goes before the Senate Finance Committee, which he chairs. Grassley, a republican, says the bill would remove the current time limit on the deductibility of interest on student loans. He says the bill would also make any educational assistance from an employer to an employee tax-free. He says college loans should be treated in the tax code like certain business loans. Grassley says he made up this “tax bill for education” to be considered by the full Senate when it takes up President Bush’s education reform bill.
