Iowa City hosts NCAA Wrestling Tourney this weekend

March 14, 2001 By admin

The NCAA Wrestling Championships open tomorrow in Iowa City. The University of Iowa is looking to win its 7th consecutive title at home. Hawkeye Coach Jim Zalesky says the key to winning number eight is having the four unseeded wrestlers do as well as the four that’re seeded. Zalesky says they’ve got less room for error this year. Iowa State University wrestler Cael Sanderson enters the tournament looking to increase his record unbeaten streak, he now has 114 straight wins. Cyclone Coach Bobby Douglas is asking the media to ease up on the interviews, as Sanderson is feeling the pressure. Douglas says all the attention has distracted Sanderson from his job on the mat.The tournament runs through Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
