Titles on the line in 1A and 2A tonight

March 16, 2001 By admin

Two champions will be crowned tonight at the boys’ state basketball tournament. Two familiar names hook up for the 1A title as Boyden-Hull meets Pomeroy-Palmer. A regular participant in the tournament, Boyden-Hull is still searching for its first title and has been second three times, including last year’s double overtime loss to Newell-Fonda. Bill Francis is in his first season as Comet coach and tonight’s matchup has added meaning for him. Francis starred on the 1983 Palmer team that won a state title. The Knights will be in search of their first championship since 1994. Danville has been the Cinderella story of the tournament. The Bears shocked Western Christian in the opening round and advanced to the 2A title game with a four-point win over Cascade. They will play Ackley-Geneva/Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock in the championship. The Cougars advanced with an overtime win against Monroe PCM.
