Seafood Chain & Police Help Special Olympics/Iowa

Iowans who step out for seafood over the next few weeks may subjectthemselves to some friendly police harassment. Law officers in eight Iowacities are volunteering at a national restaurant chain to raise money tohelp athletes with mental retardation. Jeanette Steinfeldt (stine’-felt),associate development director for Special Olympics/Iowa, says the lawofficers will be volunteering in the West Des Moines Red Lobster restauranttoday as part of the “Cops and Lobsters” program. Special Olympics/Iowa isdedicated to sports training and competition for children and adults withmental retardation. This restaurant program raised more than ten-thousanddollars last year in Iowa. Steinfeldt says the law officers have fun withthe exposure. Red Lobster restaurants in Davenport and Cedar Rapids willhold their “Cops and Lobsters” events on April 7th, in Sioux City on April13th, in Ames on April 13th and 14th, and in Council Bluffs April 21st. TheIowa City event was held last week and the date has yet to be set in CedarFalls.
