Over 400 Iowa workers are participating in a new program at the University of Northern Iowa. The “Iowa Training Opportunity Program” is an 18-month project focused on providing short-term training for Iowans in the work world. Program manager Dan Brobst says the training allows them to be more productive on the job and allows the employer to be more competitive with better-trained workers. The training focuses on three specialties, quality, bindery operations and computerized control.Brobst hopes the program will help workers get a raise and better benefits. So far, Brobst says employers have no complaints. The program ends July 31st.
