The high cost of growing older could be lowered a bit under a bill being introduced in Congress today. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says his legislation would make long-term care insurance more affordable. Nursing home care can cost from 40-to-70-thousand dollars a year. Grassley’s legislation would offer tax incentives and tax deductions for both individuals and businesses that buy long-term care insurance.Grassley says long-term care insurance would help pay for nursing home stays, assisted living, home health aides and other services. The younger a person, the lower the premium, but most people don’t buy such policies until retirement. Grassley says his bill would create deductions that would encourage more people to invest in long-term care insurance.Grassley’s legislation would also give individuals a three thousand dollar tax credit to help cover long-term care expenses. The deductions could also apply for some of the 22-million Americans who care for family members.
