U-of-I students say they were only trying to have a blast fishing

March 27, 2001 By admin

University of Iowa officials say three students caught with bombs in their dorm room last week were targeting fish, not people.Investigators say the three students planned to drop the bombs into local waterways to kill large numbers of fish. Police arrested 18-year-old Andrew Ritchie of Riverside and 19-year olds Nathaniel Krotz of Ainsworth and Adam Fisher of Marion after someone reported the bombs in Burge Hall. The dorm was evacuated for about 90 minutes last Thursday while authorities removed the bombs. The three are free on bond after being charged with possession of an explosive device.
