UNI names two new coaches

April 2, 2001 By admin

The University of Northern Iowa has chosen new head coaches for basketball and football. Two former Northern Iowa athletes appear to be headed back to their almamater – as coaches. Several reports say Mark Farley will be named U-N-I’s new football coach, and Greg McDermott will fill the vacancy in men’s basketball. U-N-I athletic director Rick Hartzell isn’t directly saying who is being hired to fill the vacancies, but he is strongly hinting that the report is accurate. Both are expected to be introduced tomorrow at a press conference. Hartzell said going into the process he wanted at least one of the coaches to have U-N-I ties and feels that is what the fans wanted as well.
