More weather radio station transmitters are appearing in the state. The latest two are in St. Ansgar and along the Missouri border in southeast Iowa. There are plans to install 18 more in the months ahead. National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Wallenfang says, as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, now may be a good time to buy a weather radio.Wallenfang, who works out of the metro Des Moines office, says weather radios can be lifesavers. They provide listeners with reports as soon as they’re announced by the National Weather Service.Wallenfang says a weather radio is a great tool to couple with a commercial radio station for getting the latest weather information.Wallenfang says weather radios range in price from 20 to 200 dollars, depending on their features.
