Two new coaches ready to go to work at UNI

As expected, two former players have been named head coaches at the University of Northern Iowa. Greg McDermott is the new Panther basketball coach. He spent the last season as the head coach at North Dakota State and prior to that spent five seasons at Wayne State of Nebraska. McDermott will need a game plan for recruiting. The Panthers could have as many as nine seniors on the roster next season and school’s can only sign a maximum of five players in one year.McDermott says he could sign some players this spring.McDermott says he would like to employ an up-tempo style of basketball, because that’s what young people want to play.Mark Farley takes over the football program. Farley has been serving as the linebackers coach at Kansas and starred for the Panthers back in the mid-80’s. Farley says it will be great to coach in the UNI-Dome. Farley says he is thrilled to be back, as it was hard to leave in the first place.Farley says he wants the football program to win and connect with the community. He says he’ll do whatever it takes to get the community involved in the program.
