Loras student becomes an expert at stealing

April 4, 2001 By admin

He is a thief and proud of it. Loras College junior outfielder Dave Swanson set two school records in Tuesday’s doubleheader against Wisconsin-Lacrosse. In the first game, Swanson stole second base to set a single season mark for consecutive steals with 16. He stole two more in the nightcap to snap his overall mark of consecutive thefts he set a year ago. Swanson is 60-of-67 in steal attempts during his career and says while he has always been fast, he has worked on the art of base stealing. Swanson’s ability on the basepaths has attracted the attention of major league scouts. Swanson says he still has a lot of work cut out for him, but he acknowledges his speed will help him get a shot at the professional level. Swanson will try to add to his records on Saturday when the Duhawks play Wartburg in an Iowa Conference twinbill.
