Iowa softball team looks to continue success

April 5, 2001 By admin

The Iowa softball team looks poised for another run at the Big Ten title this spring. The Hawkeyes are 26-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play heading into tomorrow’s doubleheader with Wisconsin. Iowa coach Gayle Blevins has always believed in a tough non-conference schedule and during the first month of the season, the Hawks played seven games against ranked opponents and won four of them. Last season, Iowa led the Big Ten in hitting and Blevins believes the potential is there, again. Iowa did lose standout pitcher Kelly Zielstra off last year’s team, but Blevins says the staff remains solid. Blevins says the Hawkeyes will be challenged by the Badgers.
