Today is the day to say thanks to your school librarian

April 5, 2001 By admin

Today there should be more celebrating than “shhhing” in the school libraries. State Librarian Sharman Smith says school librarians are the “underdogs” of education. Smith says in the wake of the information age, librarians are also filters for the nation’s young readers. She says you can be assured that information coming into a library has been through a selection process. Smith says librarians are overlooked when compared to other educators in schools. She says the work of a librarian includes making sure that people get the best information for their needs. There are about 18-hundred school librarians in Iowa.
