More Iowans filing taxes electronically

April 6, 2001 By admin

With ten days to go before the deadline, the Internal Revenue Service says over half-a-million Iowans are still working on their federal tax returns.I-R-S spokeswoman Donna Migazzi says over 800-thousand Iowans had filed through the end of March and they expect one-point-four million to file. She says the number of Iowans filing their returns electronically is up.Fifty-two percent of Iowans thus far have filed returns electronically, that’s up from 38-percent last year. The national average is 46-percent. Migazzi says those working to meet the deadline should be careful not to make some common mistakes. Migazzi says make sure to have your social-security number on your tax return. Migazzi says there is plenty of help available if you get stumped. You can call the I-R-S toll-free around-the-clock at 800-TAX-10-40. The deadline to file this year is April 16th, as the 15th falls on a Sunday.
