Two people are charged in connection with a fatal wreck in Bettendorf last month. Police have charged 18-year old Trishia Schubert of Muscatine with homicide by vehicle. Police say Schubert was drunk when she drove an S-U-V into a utility pole, killing 11-year-old Jessica Ballheimer of East Moline, Illinois. Scott County Attorney Bill Davis has also charged 25-year-old Roy Quant of Le Claire with involuntary manslaughter as he’s accused of giving Schubert beer before the accident. He’s also charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor resulting in death. Davis says it’s the first time in Iowa that the charge has been used against someone for the death of someone other than the minor who received the alcohol. Davis says it was a case of bad judgement by Quandt. Quandt and Schubert are expected to appear in court in the next few days.
