A coalition of religious, labor and citizens’ groups staged a rally at the Federal Building in Des Moines today in protest of President Bush’s proposed tax cut plan. Mark Smith, President of the Iowa AFL-CIO, says the plan gives a far better break to the wealthy than to those who need it most.Smith also says Bush was among the presidential candidates who promised to use surplus federal money for things like education, social security and prescription drug costs. The AFL-CIO leader was joined by representatives of the Iowa Citizens Action Network and the religious group “Cross Ministries.”
