Many Iowans are waiting until this final day to file their federal income tax returns — and time is fleeting. Procrastinators beware: you only have until midnight tonight to get your federal tax package postmarked or e-mailed. I-R-S spokeswoman Donna Magazzi says there are many thousands of Iowans who’re waiting as long as they can. She says about 300-thousand Iowans have yet to file their federal forms. The numbers, as of last Thursday, show one-point-one million Iowans had filed out of one-point-four million expected. Magazzi says Iowans aren’t procrastinating more that anyone else, as usually about a third of people nationwide wait until this final day. This year’s average federal refund to Iowans is about 13-hundred dollars. Magazzi says more Iowans have taken the leap into using their home computers to do this taxing task. Magazzi says about 40-percent more Iowans are doing self-prepared e-filing this year compared to last year, where they’ve either downloaded or bought software to zap off electronic returns themselves.
