UNI may be in the market for yet another coach

April 17, 2001 By admin

The University of Northern Iowa has just replaced head coaches for football and basketball. The school may now be forced to find a new wrestling coach. Panther coach Brad Penrith is in Tempe, Arizona, to interview for the vacant head coaching job at Arizona State. The Sun Devils are looking to replace Leroy Smith, who resigned in March after nine seasons on the job. Penrith has been the head coach for one season and led U-N-I to an 11-8 dual meet record and an 18th-place finish at the N-C-A-A wrestling championships. The former University of Iowa national champion spent years as a Panther assistant before being named the head coach last June. When contacted in Tempe, Penrith declined to be interviewed.
