An eastern Iowa park is being prepared for a unique renovation project. A large section of Bettendorf’s Rocket Park will be converted into a playground for “special needs” children. Junior League co-president Ellen Bennett says it’ll cost about 150-thousand dollars. The Junior League is pitching in 30-thousand dollars for the project as is the city. More money is expected from grants and charity campaigns. The concrete and sand parts of the playground are being torn up and replaced with rubber surfacing and playground equipment that is easier for children in wheelchairs and on crutches to access. Bennett says this will be the first park of its kind in the area. The work should begin this summer with completion in the fall.
