Friday. Students from the M-F-L Mar-Mac schools helped sandbag yesterday along Marquette’s riverfront. Garnavillo students assisted in the small river town of Clayton. Highway 18 in McGregor has been closed by floodwaters as has Highway 76 north of Marquette. The river stage at Guttenberg was at 20-point-two up a foot, with a predicted crest at 21-and-a-half feet by Friday. The Allamakee County Sheriff says the road leading into Lansing could be closed later today.As volunteers build sandbag walls to hold back flood waters, Red Cross vans are on the move in eastern Iowa. An emergency response vehicle left Cedar Rapids Tuesday, headed for waterlogged Elkader. It’ll be able to provide one thousand cold meals and 400 hot meals to National Guard troops, emergency crews and area students who are filling sandbags.
