Linn County landfill plans change

April 18, 2001 By admin

The focus of a hotly debated landfill project for the Cedar Rapids area has shifted. The Bluestem Solid Waste Board will go ahead with a new landfill project in Linn County but it won’t be in a controversial location near the airport. An existing landfill north of Marion could be expanded instead. An overlooked F-A-A rule bans landfills within six miles of airports because flocks of birds can cause problems for airplanes. A Dyersville construction company submitted the low bid of just under one-point-two-million dollars for the new plan.
