Eastern Iowa students take "Sandbagging 101"

April 19, 2001 By admin

Hundreds of high school students are pitching in to help fight the flood waters in Bettendorf today. Bettendorf Public Information Officer Lauren Haldeman says sandbagging isn’t all work. Haldeman says food and drinks are available outside, and that it’s more fun than it may look. Haldeman says classes of students are stopping by to help out. The Salvation Army is helping feed all the workers. Major John Morrison says they’re working from 10 a-m until 8 p-m to feed everyone. The river is now predicted to crest Monday around 22-and-a-half feet — just below the record crest.
