Elkader honored with national award

An Iowa congressmen is in Elkader today to award an honor to the community. Congressman Jim Nussle of Manchester will be in Elkader today to present the 2001 Great American MainStreet award. The National Trust for Historic Preservation informed city leaders last month that they’d been awarded the distinction in recognition of the revitalization in the community the last decade. Only five of the awards are given out each year recognizing the nation’s best efforts at downtown revitalization through historic preservation. Nussle will present the award to city leaders in a ceremony at 9-30 at the Elkader Opera House.
