Republicans are angrily chastising Iowa’s democrat Governor for suggesting the budget cuts they propose will end up hurting children. Governor Vilsack’s pressing lawmakers to hire over 100 new child abuse investigators and supervisors. Representative Dave Heaton, a republican from Mount Pleasant, says the G-O-P will hire just half as many as Vilsack suggests. Heaton says republicans want to pass new standards for child abuse investigations rather than pay more people to conduct those investigations.House Republican Leader Christopher Rants of Sioux City says he’s “shocked” by Vilsack’s accusations. He says the Governor is “playing politics”, rather than dealing with the budget in a responsible manner. Governor Vilsack says after several high-profile child abuse cases in Iowa, it’s time to hire dozens of new investigators.
