Davenport’s Mayor is answering critics of his city. Beth Davis reports. Many are asking why Davenport doesn’t build a floodwall like other cities along the Mississippi. Mayor Phil Yerrington says he will ask federal officials if they’re asking the same questions in other areas of the country where there are natural disasters. Yerrington says it seems like federal officials are singling out the Midwest.Yerrington says they don’t even know if a floodwall would help them. He says much of the recent trouble has been with floodwater coming through the sanitary sewers. Yerrington says the city’s river spirit is being overlooked. He says the entire world needs to know that they’re a river community, and able to handle the flood. Yerrington says the city has responded very well. The Mississippi River is expected to crest today just inches below the 1993 record crest.
