Plane makes emergency landing in Cedar Rapids

May 6, 2001 By admin

No one was hurt when a small plane made an emergency landing last night at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids. The twin-engine Cessna had one engine fail and its landing gear would not lock in place. It landed on foam spread on the runway by ground crews about 9 p-m and skidded to a stop. Airport Director Larry Mullendore says he’s very happy with the ground crews for reacting so rapidly to the situation.Airport employee Carlos Trevino says he knew there was trouble as the plane was coming down from the sound of the engine.Four people were on-board. The pilot is Mike McNicoll of Kansas City, Missouri. The other three people were all family members of McNicoll. The plane was headed for Missouri from Green Bay, Wisconsin. The plane remains on a secondary runway but the main runway is still open.
