The G-O-P budget plan is expected to pass the U-S Senate today. The House approved the one-point-97-trillion dollar fiscal 2002 budget on Wednesday. Iowa Congressman Tom Latham calls the budget “historic” as it would eliminate two-point-four trillion dollars in public debt by the year 2011. He says there will also be tax relief “for every taxpayer.”The budget sets the framework for one-point-35-trillion dollars in tax cuts over 11 years. Latham, a republican from Alexander, says it will protect and preserve Social Security, eliminate the so-called death tax, boost funding to national defense and enhance education reform efforts.
