Found: one pig

May 16, 2001 By admin

There are more than 26-million pigs in Iowa, but a single homeless hog has captured attention in Des Moines. The 30-pound, pot-bellied pig was found by animal control officers wandering the Capitol City’s east side. Tom Colvin, executive director of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, says the owner has until Friday to identify and claim the animal or it’ll be put up for adoption. Colvin says it’s rare this sort of creature is brought in as a stray and it’s likely someone’s pet porker. He says there are special precautions that need to be minded when caring for such an animal, such as not feeding it too much. It’s also possible someone purloined the pet potbelly and repented but couldn’t keep the pig penned. To claim this “pig in the city,” call (515) 262-9503.
