Iowans paid Billions in taxes in 1999

June 13, 2001 By admin

Iowans paid almost two billion dollars in income taxes two years ago. This new Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance report isn’t for the most recent tax year — it’s for 1999. The agency says Iowans paid one-point-nine billion dollars in income taxes that year. There were about one-point-eight million taxpayers — and they collectively had about 69-billion dollars in income. Officials say economic growth between 1998 and ’99 can be traced through the numbers, as state taxes grew about seven-point-seven percent in that period.
