A.G. visits Des Moines for veterans tribute

July 2, 2001 By admin

U-S Attorney General John Ashcroft headlined a tribute to veterans in Des Moines last night. After pyrotechnics, prayers and patriotic songs, Ashcroft offered the crowd of nearly four thousand a brief glimpse of how Christianity is now practiced in the White House. Ashcroft said at the first cabinet meeting he attended, President Bush asked him to lead the cabinet in prayer first. Ashcroft told the crowd he recently took a good friend into the Oval Office. The friend told the President that his 90-year-old mother prayed for the President every day. Ashcroft says the President responded. “Tell her its working and tell her not to stop.”Ashcroft thanked the crowd for praying for him and for the President. The “Honor America” rally was held at First Federated Church in Des Moines and was hosted by First Federated and three other area churches.
