Briar Cliff names coach for new football program

July 2, 2001 By admin

Briar Cliff College has taken another step toward offering a football program by naming a head coach. Richard Strittmatter has 29-years of head coaching experience at the high school and collegiate level. He spent the past six years at Peru State in Nebraska. Strittmatter looks forward to the challenge of starting a program from scratch. He says it’s a different challenge, but no harder than any other program.Strittmatter will also become the school’s athletic director and feels he will have no trouble relating to the other members of the staff.Strittmatter will replace Jay Gunnells as athletic director. Gunnells will stay as interim a-d for the next year. The school will play a club football schedule in the fall of 2002 before moving to the varsity ranks in 2003.
