Violence in Jamaica doesn’t deter some travelers

July 12, 2001 By admin

Iowans may want to re-think their vacation plans if they had their hopes set on Jamaica. The Caribbean island has been rocked by violence the past several nights which left at least 23 people dead and dozens injured. Des Moines travel agent Sharon Brown says she’s warning her clients about the clashes. She says some people care, while others don’t.Brown says Iowans who want to go island hopping have many other locations to choose from, but she says she’s -not- steering people away from Jamaica because of the violence. The violence was focused in the Jamaican City of Kingston after police made several raids over the weekend for illegal weapons.
