Vacation trips are getting shorter

July 28, 2001 By admin

It’s the middle of vacation season, and while Iowans are hitting the road, their plans may be a bit different than summers past. Shawna Lode at Iowa Tourism says we’re still traveling, but not going as far.Families are busy and the last couple years they tend to go places that are a short car-trip away. Lode says more people are visiting attractions within the home state, though which part of the state will vary with the season.Western Iowa’s getting a lot of visitors anticipating the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and they’ll come to Central Iowa for the state fair. Lode says Iowa gets 19-million tourists a year, and many find their destinations by browsing the website, “Traveliowa-dot-com.”
