The Ames fire chief says a fire that destroyed a furniture store early this morning is suspicious in nature. Ames City Manager Steve Schainker says fire crews were called out around 3:30 a-m and found the Wildwood Furniture store fully engulfed. While it took an hour to control the flames, Schainker says there was another threat. The furniture store was adjacent to the city’s power plant which was dangerously close to catching fire too. The power plant was not damaged. Schainker says there were no serious injuries reported. Two Ames firefighters were treated and released for minor injuries, while two Nevada firefighters were treated and released for heat exhaustion.
