The “National Night Out” will be celebrated in dozens of communities across Iowa tonight — and in thousands of cities worldwide. Mason City Police Department Community Service Officer Larry Carroll explains they’re trying to let people know about crime and drug prevention awareness.While each community’s event is individual, they all focus on the same theme — that people -can- make a difference in fighting crime and drugs through programs like neighborhood watch. Carroll says a number of organizations are involved in Mason City’s celebration.Carroll says between 96-to-98-hundred communities from all fifty states, territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world celebrate “National Night Out”.
