Bettendorf shuts down pool

August 9, 2001 By admin

There’s a lot less splashing going on at Bettendorf’s aquatic center. The park board voted yesterday to close the main pool at the aquatic center, leaving just a kiddie pool open. The main pool has been closed for several weeks already while the city tried to figure out why the water in the pool was turning cloudy. They inspected the filter system and scrubbed down the walls, but still could not solve the problem. The city has returned about 75-thousand dollars in season swim passes. The pool normally closes at the end of August and city officials estimate they’ll be losing 18-hundred dollars a day by closing the pool early.
