Food bank happy with big donation of chicken

Food banks, soup kitchens and homeless missions in 42 Iowa counties may soon have chicken nuggets on the menu. Tyson Foods has donated 15 TONS of chicken to the Food Bank of Iowa. Karen Ford, the Food Bank’s director, says it’s an unusual donation.Ford says not only did Tyson donate the chicken, the company donated the transportation for getting the chicken to the Food Bank’s freezers. She says they have 265 agencies that might get some of the chicken, she says a majority don’t have on-site freezers.Ford says there’s enough chicken for 155-thousand meals.Tyson has pledged to donate six-and-a-half million pounds of chicken to the nation’s food pantries over the next three years.
