Congressman Tom Latham says the feds should drastically change proposed rules for livestock operations. Latham says if enacted, the proposed rules will force 60 percent of Iowa cattle producers out of business. Latham says it’ll cost up to 300-thousand dollars to comply with the new regulations, something small and medium-sized livestock producers can’t afford.The cattle industry isn’t as dominated by large players like the pork industry has, but Latham says the proposed regulation would accomplish that by forcing small cattle operations out of business.Latham says Congress may try to modify the regulation. Latham says there’s also money in the Farm Bill to help cattle producers comply with the rules.
