Cedar Rapids says goodbye to ballpark

August 28, 2001 By admin

Tonight’s the final go-round at the old ballpark in Cedar Rapids. After 52 years of minor league baseball, Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids will host its final game tonight. A new, 15 million dollar facility is being built near the old ballpark and will be ready for the 2002 season. There were lots of complaints about the old ballpark: its seats were uncomfortable, the sound system was bad, and there weren’t enough bathrooms or concession areas. Officials hope the new stadium will boost attendance to levels similar to those in other Midwest League markets.
