Cell phone thief gets arrested after call

Davenport police are nominating 54-year-old Daniel Fritz for the “unlucky crook of the week” award.The Davenport man allegedly found a cellular phone in a parking lot on Saturday. He used it to call the phone’s owner and took a call from someone who wanted to speak to the owner. Fritz allegedly demanded money for the return of the phone. A ransom amount was agreed upon and a meeting place set. The phone was owned by a Davenport police officer and two of his co-workers arrived at the meeting place to arrest Fritz on charges of theft.
