Accident kills one near Iowa City

September 5, 2001 By admin

Johnson County authorities are investigating a multiple-vehicle fatal accident that happened last night near Iowa City. A Johnson County man died when his pickup truck was sandwiched between two semis as a third semi plowed into them on Interstate 80. The victim has not yet been identified. Firefighters had to tear apart one of the semis to extinguish the flames, as the truck carried highly flammable vinyl siding. The westbound lanes of the interstate were closed at Highway One for eleven hours. Traffic began moving again around nine this morning.
