Students will seek to cut tuition increase

The cost of attending Iowa’s three public universities may jump significantly next fall. A proposal before the state Board of Regents would raise tuition and fees up to 12 percent. Iowa State University president of the student body Andy Tofilon is a junior from Davenport.Tofilon says students realize there needs to be an increase in tuition, but hope to convince the Board of Regents to adopt a lower figure.Tofilon says some students will be priced out of a state university education.The Board of Regents will discuss the issue at its meeting in Iowa City next week, but won’t make a final decision on the tuition rate ’til its November meeting.
